TAPAN Mission
The Texas Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, as a component of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, advances nursing practice through education, research, and standards.

History
The Texas Assocation of Post Anesthesia Nurses was formed in 1976.  The organization became incorporated on April 2, 1984 as a non-profit corporation.  The initial Board of Directors was:
Elaine Kerl – Dallas
Mary Donahugh – Ft. Worth
Joyce Nelson – Galveston
Ida Hodge – Ft. Worth
Gayle Trent – Dallas
Peggy Ebensberger – Round Rock

On March 24, 1996, the TAPAN Board met and adopted a resolution to change the name of the organization from the Texas Association of Post Anesthesia Nurses to the Texas Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.


In 2009, the TAPAN Board undertook the task of redrawing the district lines in order to better meet the needs of the membership.  The resulting 5 regions are:
North & East Texas
Upper Gulf Coast
Hill Country and South Texas
West Texas and Panhandle
Far West Texas
